LEARN2SWIM for Ages 8-12

There is a simple formula for children…

When children have fun, they learn. When children learn, they improve. When children improve, they enjoy success. When children enjoy success, they gain confidence. When children are confident, well… what more would you want as a parent than a child who is learning, improving, enjoying success, and gaining confidence?

When children are comfortable, when they are encouraged to play, to experiment, to have fun, they make incredible gains.  Its when success, results, performance are placed as initial and immediate expectations that problems arise. Believe it or not, the same also applies to adults.

Our Learn2Swim (L2S) program follows the formula outlined above: fun filled sessions helping juniors become comfortable in water. When comfortable we are open to learning and the best way to get comfortable is to have fun. Through skill based games and specific instruction in FUNdamental stroke skills, juniors will learn the kicks necessary for freestyle, backstroke and butterfly. With kicking mastered, juniors will then learn to add arms.

To start, L2S has a ratio of 3 swimmers to 1 coach ensuring each swimmer receives individual instruction. As swimmers progress their needs change from constant instruction, to increasing amounts of repetition of skills. When swimmers can complete continuous laps of the pool, the swimmer to coach ratio moves towards that of our Kick2Start program. This progression is an important step as it prepares swimmers to transition to the next level of training: where athletes must be able to practice drills and skills and execute workout sets more independently.

Sessions are 45mins long, are held at Cedar Springs Health Racquet & Sportsclub. The program runs 7 weeks, and cost is $135 (all in).

All coaches are experienced competitive swimmers, triathletes, and open water swimmers.

To participate, swimmers will need:

  • a bathing suit (a suit for swimming is highly recommended as opposed to a fashion suit),

  • fins specific to competitive swimming (see image), and well fitted goggles.

A swim cap is encouraged for long hair, if not then long hair needs to be tied back so that it isn’t constantly in the swimmers face.

Refund Policy:  jTOEST DOES NOT provide refunds. With programs focused on quality, on learning, on athlete’s making significant progress, hi athlete turnover rate would compromise coaching and the experience of all athletes. We ask that prior to registering that all commitments, calendars, etc… are reviewed to avoid joining when the risk is that the athlete will miss many sessions and/or the athlete will have to drop out. Once an athlete registers, they have a reserved spot in a lane for the entire duration of the program.
